I went to a bookstore event with John Milton, and the subject of Kundalini awakenings (gone awry!) came up- he said, when the weird negative stuff happens, he thought it was because people were not grounded deeply enough to the earth, and did not have an awareness of the "front and back energy channels". This made sense to me, since I have been practicing this type of meditation for about 10 years now.
